In February 2010, I traveled to Nicaragua with the NC Mission of Hope to help the desperately poor families that live outside of Managua, the capitol city. What I saw changed my life. You think you know what poverty looks like until you see it in a third world nation. Additionally, the plight of many young women is made worse under these conditions. Lack of education and opportunity, domestic violence and marginalization are common. In an effort to bring awareness to help stop violence against women, I have created a special Awareness necklace to specifically raise funds to help the Mission of Hope build a Women’s Safe House in Nicaragua.
